OKOKOOKOKOK soooo this is going to be short but basically I just thought of a plot of what if it wasn't only pure vanilla who inherited shadow milks souljam?

In game, it's started that all the ancient heroes are half a cookie, as they only have half of the power of their respective souljam. It's the reason why the beast wanted their souljams back, not only did it belong to them originally, but also it would complete them and gain their full power back

With shadow milk and pure vanilla it's easy to think of them as 50/50

But if we were to have reader in the mix It would make sense for it to be 50/40/10

The 10 being readers sliver of souljam being on their necklace. Remember, the souljam originally belonged to shadow milk cookie, or the fount of knowledge. I like to think that's why shadow milk is more possessive over reader rather than pure vanilla. Which is to be given buts its much worse, considering in this AU they're both considered yandere. It's because reader's sliver of souljam is more directly connected to shadow milks souljam rather than transformed into the light of truth like pure vanilla's.

Both of them are very in love with them of course, don't mistake that sliver of souljam means pure vanilla also wouldn't go to an extreme just because their more connected to shadow milk.

i've been mulling over how to answer this prompt and honestly i think two words can sum it up pretty nicely: simple and real. it doesn't take much for robin to feel joy. while she does have her own wish, her happiness ultimately does not need some grand design. she is happy seeing birds fly, playing games, singing to children, being with others, helping others, eating sweets. like you don't need to go to great lengths to put a smile on her face. she's happy and grateful for many things in this world! so that's simple explained. but why real? well i make the distinction because she is aware that a lot of the joys in this world can be fake. she hails from penacony, after all—a planet known for sweet dreams that don't exist in reality. i think, especially after she leaves penacony, robin comes to sincerely appreciate all that exists in the real world. so she doubly appreciates knowing that her joy is tangible and exists even without needing the dreamscape to conjure it up for her.

on a slightly related note: i feel like this is why she enjoys shopping so much. having something she can hold that is a physical manifestation of her joy. i think she particularly enjoys trinkets (she is not Plushies_are_Best for no reason!) that serve no use but hold great sentimental value for her. she'll buy just about anything that sparks joy or brings up any good memories. (i want to emphasize the memory thing since memories are something intangible... so i feel like, in her little trinkets and doodads, she gives these memories a physical vessel to live in... something that, when she holds or sees, she'll be certain that whatever memory it's attached to is real)

she definitely goes crazy at tourist shops. i can imagine she's sent sunday a lot of things over her journey through the cosmos. she's also mentioned having way too much random shit in her room. she's an anik-anik girlie! (i don't know if there's any equivalent thing for this in your guys' sphere, but in my country, there's a concept known as 'anik-anik' which is something like holding onto your possessions as a way to curate nostalgia and memories. i'm not explaining it very well but here's an article on that.)

on this note! i emphatically believe that robin is a great gift giver. i feel like it's her way of sharing that tangible joy. in one of her train dialogues where she mistakes pom-pom for a rabbit doll, she offers to send them a gift as an apology.

not to say that she's materialistic! i don't think she chases these things because she's money-oriented or particularly concerned with owning worldly possessions. i just think that she prefers to have something concrete to attach her abstract feelings to. something simple and something real!

#like. he is so intent on 'winning' trina that he doesn't even really see her and her own issues.#we see throughout the musical that he's not like. a great psychiatrist. he's more self-centered.#'work is my passion/ or perhaps that's an alibi' - that's true! not in the way marvin interprets it. but he claims to be focused on his wor#when in fact he's mostly concerned with his own life.

mendel is fundamentally a self-centered character. i don't mean that to say he's#selfish or morally degenerate or anything. but his motivations and goals are self-focused not outward/family/society-focused.

#whizzer is a really interesting foil to this bc he is an outwardly-focused character. his whole thing is his own goals and desires being#denied. over and over. marvin breaks up with him. he has to give up his future and life and relationship. he comes back for jason#not for his own romantic life or his own gain. because he loves jason and jason wants him there.

#so in making a home; of course mendel loves his life. he 'got it all'. he beat marvin at his own game. his goals are fulfilled!#so if he's happy he assumes trina is too - she isn't stuck in a relationship with marvin. she's got a normal life. she doesn't have to worr#abt decisions or roles or duty - mendel assumes - bc mendel thinks he's taking those things on to help her. he wants those things#and he's a psychiatrist so obviously that's what's best right?

same with his interactions with jason#but unlike trina jason has no one to turn to. mendel at least is 'not a maniac'. mendel at least loves her. jason? he cant#talk to trina. he hates talking to mendel. he holds a grudge against marvin. and whizzer isn't there.#if mendel loves his life then of course jason and whizzer hate theirs!! that's the foil that's the balance.

#also. whizzer repeating lines. augh. aughqughaugha he's not there not really#but he's looking on at what might have been. the space he leaves behind is half of the reason everyone gives the answers they do.#they have a happy home. supposedly. they're making believe. and whizzer knows that feeling bc he was in the middle of the same thing#and jason knows it's all made up too!! they all know it's made up. but only whizzer and jason hate it#mendel and trina are making believe bc they find that better than facing reality

#jason is a pessimist and a realist and a child. he doesn't have that luxury#and whizzer is pulling himself along entirely alone. he has no one to let him live that fantasy#anyways. WAUGHHH#this musical i. yeah

Okok, another random blurb, but UGH i keep listening to Making a Home and by GOD is it a good song and represents act 1 perfectly.

For a song I basically slept through on my first watch, I just keep noticing how good and important it is with each watch. Starting with just Trina, Mendel and Jason and eventually adding Whizzer to the mix is in itself a good representation of Whizzers role in the family. His role in the song, with echoing the others lines and not even being apart of the setting, it just really says something about how important and needed Whizzer is at that moment in their lives. And with the fact that one of the only times he says something with another character is when him and Jason say the line “hating our lives” really says something about their bond, cuz it is way stronger than most give it credit for. I mean, Jason is the whole reason Whizzer came back into their lives in the first place!

But there’s another thing in this song that I also think needs to be discussed. In a way, this song kinda reveals that perhaps Mendel is like Marvin in a lot of ways. Perhaps not the gay affair part, but he’s certainly just as ignorant.

“She becomes a happy wife” (Mendel)

“He decides the role to assume” (Trina)

That line is mostly played off for jokes, but it does say something. Perhaps he isn’t as awful or negligent, but it seems Mendel is taking a bit too much pride in the fact he married his clients ex wife (see Tight Knit Family Reprise) to have sense to care about how Trina feels in this sudden new arrangement with a man who though she certainly likes, hasn’t known for too long.

Again, another example of Mendel perhaps enjoying his new marriage too much and taking pride in it. He looks off into the distance when he says his line, ignoring Trina and how she says she only “likes” her life at the moment. Again, Mendel isn’t as awful as Marvin, but it can’t be said for certain that in this moment with Mendel, though she loves him, she feels a bit abandoned by this “happy man” who currently “rules her life”, in a way.

But, that’s honestly just me reading into this too much. Still love him, but we gotta admit that Mendel is kinda an asshole. But, he never hits his ex wife, so we’ll take what we can get!
